Craftsmanship
Custom Furniture Creations believes that the beauty of nature needs to be highlighted with careful hand craftsmanship that will result in a wood creation that is both stunning in appearance and fully functional.
Craftsmanship comes from years of wood working experience and the knowledge of various techniques and tricks that are gathered along the endless journey that defines the skills of each and every craftsman.
There are four main components to Custom Furniture Creation's own brand of craftsmanship:
1. Joinery - This is an essential skill that takes years of practice to be able to fit wood together in a manner that will
produce a strong joint, fit correctly, allow for the constant movement inherent within wood, and is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. All of our drawers are dovetailed, frames are mortise and tenon, edge joins are splined , turnings are done by hand (No duplicators), and inlays are carefully carved and fitted by hand.
2. Personal selection of our materials - We personally select our wood from the mill, unlike factory produced furniture. Each piece of wood may be a two-year undertaking that started with harvesting the tree, milling at the local Amish mill, and extensive air drying. Because of this time we spend in selecting our materials that we can produce such unique wood creations. Due to our sourcing techniques and the time spent in the selection process (harvesting, hauling, stacking, drying, milling) we can assure an end product that is both stunning and unique. 3. Finishes - Custom Furniture Creations discourages the use of stains in it's products. If wood is chosen carefully there will be no need to hide nature's own unique beauty. Our finishes are customized to our customer's needs and all are chosen to provide durability and pleasing aesthetics. In most cases a combination of tung oil and polyacrylics are used to provide a finish that nourishes the wood and protects it from life's adventures. Our butcher blocks are finished with a natural and safe oil that will not contaminate the food that is prepared on it.
4. Eye for Uniqueness - Each tree is unique, and we feel that it is our responsibility to coach the best out of our wood. Many furniture builders look at a board and choose the side that is plain and even, we choose the side that is most stunning. (Check out some of our unique woods !)
If you are looking for a piece of furniture, like a table, whose top is manufactured of 12 perfectly matched oak boards with a stain that hides the joinery, then you should choose furniture from a factory store.
